Day Before Surgery

Follow these guidelines the day before surgery to ensure that your surgery goes smoothly:

  1. Notify your surgeon if there is any change in your physical condition, such as cold or fever.

  2. If no one has spoken to you from the Legacy Surgery Center, please call 972.712.4800 Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for specific instructions.

  3. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring your case for their safe keeping. We'll provide containers for any removable dentures or bridgework.

  4. Eating and Drinking.
ABSOLUTELY NO food, dairy products or clear liquids 8 hours prior to your scheduled surgery. Typically this means nothing after midnight. This is essential to reduce the possibility of nausea and vomiting after anesthesia and or surgery. It is also best not to chew gum the morning of your surgery as this will produce extra saliva. You may brush your teeth remembering not to swallow anything.

  5. Medications.
Please take all of your prescribed medications with a sip of water prior to arriving in the morning. If you are diabetic or take blood thinning anticoagulants, obtain specific instructions from your physician.

  6. Have a good nights rest.

  7. Please be sure to fill out the forms completely, including your height and weight, previous surgeries, medications and allergies on the Admission/ Anesthesia Sheet.
